FITNESSGRAM/ACTIVITYGRAM
8.0 Information

FITNESSGRAM/ACTIVITYGRAM 8.0 has many new features and improved capabilities:

Following is a brief summary of FITNESSGRAM/ACTIVITYGRAM 8.0 components and how they work together to provide schools with a powerful resource for enhancing the quality and accountability of their physical education programs.

FITNESSGRAM/ACTIVITYGRAM 8.0 includes software, a test manual, and related ancillaries, including The Cooper Institute's FITNESSGRAM/ACTIVITYGRAM Reference Guide. The software features two assessment modules, FITNESSGRAM and ACTIVITYGRAM. An Activity Log for recording pedometer steps and minutes of physical activity is also included.

The FITNESSGRAM assessment module contains a complete battery of health-related fitness items that are scored using criterion-referenced standards. FITNESSGRAM is the first health-related fitness test to use such standards, which are age and gender specific and based on how fit children need to be for good health.

The software produces an individualized report card that summarizes the child's performance in each component of health-related fitness and provides suggestions for promoting and maintaining good fitness. The use of health-related criteria helps to minimize comparisons between children and to emphasize personal fitness for health rather than goals based solely on performance. The sophisticated database structure within the program allows for long-term tracking of each student's fitness over time. Schools can also generate a variety of reports for analyzing results and sharing information not only with each student but with their parents, too.

The ACTIVITYGRAM module is an activity assessment tool that provides detailed information on a student's level of physical activity. It is the only computerized physical activity assessment available for use with schoolchildren. Feedback is provided on the amount and type of activity that a child performs.

The new Activity Log feature allows students to track their physical activity (step counts per day or minutes of activity per day) and participate in customized activity challenges designed by the teacher.

FITNESSGRAM/ACTIVITYGRAM 8.0 enables teachers to do the following:

Student Features of FITNESSGRAM

The FITNESSGRAM/ACTIVITYGRAM 8.0 software includes many functions specifically for use by students to keep them more involved in their personal fitness and activity program and save time for the teacher. Students can use the software to

FITNESSGRAM/ACTIVITYGRAM 8.0 is an interactive resource, too. Students can use an option called ACTIVITYGRAM to assess their own physical activity level inside and outside the classroom. They can see how different types of activities contribute to their overall physical activity profile. And ACTIVITYGRAM gives them feedback to help them modify their activities and make better progress toward their goals. It empowers students to take responsibility for their own program, which is a great motivator. Now more than ever, FITNESSGRAM/ACTIVITYGRAM 8.0 involves and motivates students.

More about ACTIVITYGRAM®

The ACTIVITYGRAM function is a physical activity assessment that lets students take charge of their own program. ACTIVITYGRAM keeps track of the intensity level of the activities students record, assesses the cumulative impact of those activities, and compares the results to guidelines in the activity pyramid. Used in conjunction with the individualized FITNESSGRAM report, ACTIVITYGRAM helps educate students by showing them how much of which physical activities will best help them reach their physical activity goals.

New Activity Log

A new Activity Log module has been added to FITNESSGRAM/ACTIVITYGRAM 8.0 so that students can more easily keep track of their physical activity. Students enter data on step counts or minutes of activity for any days they choose, set personal goals for the number of steps or minutes, and track progress by cumulative step or minute total or daily averages. Teachers can print summary reports that combine data for one or more teachers and one or more classes within a specified date range. Teachers also can print blank step count or minute log sheets for students to fill in at home and then enter the data for several days at once.

The most innovative and motivational feature of the Activity Log is that teachers or district administrators can create incentive challenges and issue these to classes within a school or, if using the networkable versions of the new software, to schools within a district. These challenges serve as motivation to the groups to see which ones can achieve the highest levels of physical activity and do the best job of achieving their goals.

Record and Report Results Quickly and Easily

The FITNESSGRAM/ACTIVITYGRAM 8.0 software is a powerful administrative and class management tool. Teachers can easily enter data on classes, students, tests, and scores. And the program enables them to quickly generate valuable reports that include

Schools that use the small network version of the software also can run reports that summarize and compare test results and students' progress among multiple teachers and classes. And districts that purchase the District SQL Server Version can generate reports that analyze district-wide data!

Easy Record Keeping

FITNESSGRAM/ACTIVITYGRAM 8.0 is designed to make it easy to keep track of students as they grow and move through the school system. Now it's easier than ever before to handle administrative tasks like moving student FITNESSGRAM records to new teachers and classes (individually or in groups)--and in the case of the District SQL Server Version, even to other schools within the district.
