Fitnessgram provides centralized database options that are especially convenient for schools, districts, and states that need to track students and compare their test scores over time as those students move through the school system. District-level administrators can use Fitnessgram's data management and reporting power to improve accountability, monitor progress, and improve results of physical education programs in every school throughout the district.
Districts and schools may choose among different versions of Fitnessgram based on what best suits their needs and their network environments. Fitnessgram 9 (web-based) software is available in three versions:
- Statewide and Large Metro Program
- District Program
- School Program
Fitnessgram 8 (client-installed) software is available in three versions:
- District Server Version for networking larger numbers of computers in multiple schools throughout the district (WAN-Windows or MAC client computers)
- Small Network Version for networking multiple computers within a single school (LAN-Windows or MAC)
- Stand-Alone (Non-Network) Version for a single computer (Windows or MAC)
The network versions feature a centralized database. Because student data can be stored and shared through one location, this facilitates use of the program across the district and makes it easy to analyze data at the district level.
Multiple reporting options at the school, district, and state level
Using these reports, teachers and administrators can evaluate the fitness program and make decisions on allocating resources, or demonstrate the value of their program. Some of the predefined report options include:
- Fitnessgram summary report
- Fitnessgram individual data sheet
- Fitnessgram achievement of standards
- Fitnessgram longitudinal tracking report
- Fitnessgram statistics report
- Student information report
- Activitygram report
Large Scale Implementation of Fitnessgram
Districts and states may use data from Fitnessgram for analysis with other factors, including academic achievement and socioeconomic data, to provide administrators with the information they need to make wide reaching decisions.
In 2007, Texas and Delaware chose Fitnessgram program and software for their data collection of fitness test results for their state-wide implementation programs. Fitnessgram also met an equally important need: providing individualized, educational reports for both students and parents. Working in partnership with both states, Human Kinetics (the sole-source provider of Fitnessgram) and The Cooper Institute were able to help them ensure smooth program implementation.
Making positive, sweeping changes in physical education takes time and is dependent upon gathering the appropriate data. Fitness test results are the logical first step in this process. California recently made a significant commitment to improving their physical education program after reviewing Fitnessgram data collected for millions of students over past years. New York City Public Schools made similar positive use of their extensive Fitnessgram data.
Thanks to the latest developments in the software, the use of Fitnessgram at this level is now possible for states, metro areas, and very large districts that want to collect and aggregate data and generate a wide variety of reports for data analysis. We can help refine the data questions for analysis and work through the critical decisions that need to be made to provide sound educational choices for your students. Human Kinetics can also customize these reporting options to specific district or state mandates. If your state, metro area, or large district is considering using Fitnessgram, please contact Human Kinetics.
