Before you order
Before purchasing Fitnessgram/Activitygram, it's important to follow these steps to help you determine which version of the software will best fit your needs:
- Read the sections below to learn more about the different software options;
- Consult with your Instructional Technology (IT) Director and refer them to the System Requirements, Technical Support, and Training sections of this web site for the facts they need to help guide your purchase decision; and
- Talk to your Human Kinetics K-12 sales representative. They will help you determine the best combination of Fitnessgram/Activitygram resources to meet your objectives. Our reps can also help you clarify your fitness and activity assessment objectives and suggest supporting information to help you gain approval for your Fitnessgram purchase.

Once you have selected the appropriate software version, you have several options for submitting your order:

Different versions of Fitnessgram software
Fitnessgram 9
Fitnessgram 9 is web-based software, offering a significant advantage for tech administrators over Fitnessgram 8, which is a client-installed software program. With Fitnessgram 9.0, the program must be installed on a web server owned (hosted) by a district, state, or regional office, or a third party hosting vendor. If your school or district is unable to host the web server, information about third party hosting and associated costs is available through The Cooper Institute (800-635-7050).
Web-based software means teachers and students can access the program from anywhere they have an internet connection (if the district has set permissions allowing this), as shown below:

When you purchase a site license for web-based Fitnessgram 9, you also receive a Kit that includes
- The Fitnessgram/Activitygram Test Administration Manual, which includes the PACER CD and a DVD that shows the test protocols,
- Healthy Fitness Zone® wall charts (one for girls and one for boys),
- Healthy Fitness Zone® clipboard,
- 8 station cards for test items,
- sample Fitnessgram pre-printed forms for students (in English and Spanish) and parents (also in English and Spanish) and sample student Activitygram form, and
- additional information on the Healthy Fitness Zone standards, tech support, and NFL Play 60.

Fitnessgram 8
Fitnessgram 8 is a traditional, client-side installed software program. (As of Fall 2010, no further software updates will be issued for Fitnessgram 8.) Fitnessgram 8 is available in District Server, Small Network, and Stand Alone versions:
District Server Version
The District Server version allows school districts to compile data from multiple schools within the district through a centralized database.
System Needs: See Fitnessgram 8 System Requirements page.
Staffing Needs: Trained administrator with a thorough understanding of Microsoft server and experience with obtaining Tech Support assistance from Microsoft and personnel skilled at maintaining and troubleshooting a WAN.
Small Network Version
The Small Network version allows multiple computers within one school to share data through a common server.

Staffing Needs: Trained Windows Server administrator with a thorough understanding of Windows Server and experience with obtaining Tech Support assistance from Microsoft and personnel skilled at maintaining and troubleshooting a LAN.
Stand Alone Version (Non-Network)
The Stand Alone version is installed on one computer in a school. Data can only be accessed from the computer where Fitnessgram is installed. This works best if only one person or one computer will be used for entering and accessing Fitnessgram data.

When you purchase a site license for any version of Fitnessgram 8, you also receive a Kit that includes
- The Fitnessgram/Activitygram Test Administration Manual, which includes the PACER CD and a DVD that shows the test protocols,
- A skinfold caliper,
- 3" and 4-1/2" curl-up strips,
- A Healthy Fitness Zone® wall chart,

Key differences between Fitnessgram 9 and Fitnessgram 8
The NEW Web-based Fitnessgram 9 offers a host of new benefits for school systems of all sizes:
- Web-based; no client installations
- Web address is determined by district policy
- Versions for wide-scale data collection of states, large metro districts, districts, and schools
- Each version has a Configure module to define your program
- Set permission levels for teachers and students for features of the program
- Use of single sign-on for users
- Establish exemption codes for kids not present during testing such as injury, absence, or disability
- Can use default federal ethnicity codes or import codes specific to the district
- Email Fitnessgram student and parent reports to save on print and paper costs
- Import historical data from Fitnessgram 8 program
- New export of data providing information of raw scores (and if in the Healthy Fitness Zone Y or N) and by fitness component ( and if in the Healthy Fitness Zone Y or N)
- New overview statistical reports for test results by test item or by fitness component for the following:
- Administrative unit (district, school, or class)
- By specific grade(s) or range of grade level(s)
- You can define the grade levels for this option
- Percentage achieving the Healthy Fitness Zone for selected test items or components
