Attention! FitnessGram Administrators
SB 226 was passed and signed into law requiring schools include de-identified FitnessGram assessment data for each student tested as part of your research export file to TEA. This data will allow for a correlative analysis of student fitness levels to attendance and academic indicators. When conducting the import of student data from your existing PEIMS data collection system, please now also use the student Personal Identification Number (PID) with the standard import that already included student name, gender, grade, and date of birth. This PID number which is most notably called the PEIM student ID in most districts should now be the unique student identifier within the FitnessGram application. The data that you provide to the physical Fitness Assessment Initiative ( PFAI) application will be de-identified during the PFAI uploaded process in accordance with the law and student information will remain the confidential.
What does this mean for my district?
If you have been using the PEIMS student IDs in your FG program, you don?t need to do anything new. If you have been using an ID other than PEIMS you will need to go through the attached guidelines to perform a special import for 8.6 or 9.0 software. There are no options. Reporting students through de-identified individual data is the law and it will provide relevant information regarding health related performance standards and other TEA measures.
Collaboration with your local technology contact is necessary
If you have not been using the PID (known as the PEIMs number) you will need to perform a special import prior to submitting 2012 Fitnessgram data to TEA. Therefore, it will be necessary to collaborate with your IT department or designated technology individual and follow the guidelines.
